'Candy game'

Ruben engaged in a "treat game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She told the court the man had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and minors had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She stated Ruben had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had worries in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "Recently" his stepchild had concerns about what was going on, for good reason.
"They resolved" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."
Mrs Prior KC said materials including baby oil, Vaseline and injection devices were found, and his family member notified the authorities about his worries.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that point," she continued.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, had stated that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
Mrs Prior said the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the stepson contacted the authorities again.
