In a surprising partnership that breaks conventional forecasts, the game developer has announced an in-game collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, including complimentary additional story content for Shadows players.

Strange Questline Disclosed

According to the official statement, "An unusual confrontation draws heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a new mission, where hints of prohibited rituals and fearsome changes reverberate through the shadows." The narrative features a "strangely garbed woman named Ada" who charges the characters with traveling into the Crystalline Cavern—a important location from Attack on Titan—to save her friend from a hidden group.

The adventure concentrates on "strange experiments and a terrifying enemy" and is accessible to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.

Recognizable Places and Changes

The teaser showcases the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was earlier where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through eras. The teaser ends with a dramatic scene showing a character, likely the captive, transforming into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Rewards and Additional Features

Players who successfully complete the quest will acquire an special katana together with multiple artifacts secreted throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also includes premium Attack on Titan item packs, including:

This patch also introduces the game's latest no-cost story content, titled "The Enigma." This lighthearted quest partners Naoe and Yasuke as they exchange characteristic abilities: Naoe reveals a performative interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke masters subduing stealth takedowns. True to its name, "A Puzzlement" also features a fresh environmental puzzle that may finally explain some unanswered questions from the main storyline.

This marks not the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has crossed over with famous anime series. The series previously showcased a 2020 collaborative story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga.
